Great list post, I just realized that my blog had no contact info at all. I quickly changed that and thanks for the tips. Sometimes, common sense (at least for me) is not very common.

I’ve only been asked for a freelance resume once, but, like writing samples, I suppose it’s not a bad thing to have around, right?

And, Jan, I always think making people flip any piece of paper that you really want them to read but they don’t HAVE to read is a mistake. Some things need to go on one page, but if you’re asking for a job or for anything else, my feeling is that you should keep the message short and sweet–don’t make it harder for the person reading to choose YOU than you have to. Why make them work harder? (grin)

I’ve never had to provide my resume for a freelance gig, but now that I think about it, I believe that’s because I present as a business rather than as a freelancer. I have seen freelance jobs that request resumes, but I haven’t applied for any of those yet. In fact, I haven’t updated my resume in a few years! I’m not sure I need to, but it certainly couldn’t hurt to have it ready.

Great list. I love the one-page resume recommendation. That’s true – who bothers with multi-paged resumes these days? Providing links to online sample of work is pretty helpful, too.

It’s true–this post DID focus more on freelance writing than on other types of freelancing. But, still … the same rules apply for other freelancers. It’s just that instead of types of writing skills and writing samples, you would list your design specialties or whatever type of work you do.

The article talks mostly about freelance writing which I thought was directed to all types freelancers. If I were a freelance designer, I’d probably have some files emailed along with the resume. If not, I’d forward links to the client.
