@Judy--that's a good point. Silence from the vendor's side is just as rude as silence from the client's side ... and, worse, it's just something that's going to hurt them by losing them a client right away. I can't believe how many businesses have done the opposite to me as a (potential) client. Anywhere from "I need to fix my water heater" to "Can you give me an estimate on building a deck" has been met with complete silence. And *I'm* trying to give *them* money! Judy H.’s last blog post..Newbies!

Excellent post. I agree it's important to be polite and follow-up even if you can't afford someone's services. It's a small world and you never know when you might be ready to do business with someone you've turned down in the past. *chuckles* Feeling inspired? Probably a full 1/4 of our conversations, back-and-forths and proposals end in silence. There are many where I wish the person would have said, "Hey, thanks for your time. We're going to think about that." Coolness. I get that. No problem. It's just plain good manners - and it goes a long, long way for us to think kindly of the person and appreciate them as not just potential clients, but possible friends.
